Making liquid concentrate castile soap from bar soap

We are always on the hunt for a way to make homemade cleaning solutions that is more health beneficial to our families and the environment, cost effective, and simple to make.  We came across several recipes using liquid castile soap.  But unfortunately our local Wal-Mart didn't carry the liquid but they did have Kirk's castile bar soap. We live in the middle of nowhere, and with the price of gas sky rocketing again, it was just as easy for us to order our castile soap through Amazon.  So with ingredients bought, and research done, we delved right in to making our own liquid concentrate castile soap.

Supplies/Ingredients
bowl
spoon
grater
pot
storage container(s)

1 (4oz) bar Kirk's Castile soap
2 Tbsp  glycerin
4 c water

Put 4 cups of water in your pot and let it come to a boil.  While waiting on your water to boil, Grate your Kirk's Castile soap into the bowl.

Once your water comes to a boil,  carefully pour it in the bowl with the grated soap.  Stir well until completely dissolved.

Add 2 tablespoons of glycerin.  Kirk's  castile soap is oil based so the glycerin is added to help the oil and water stick together.  Stir well.  Now you have to wait 24-ish hours for it to set. This is the hard part for us, because we are impatiently eager, but set aside and give it an occasional stir.

After the 24 hrs it has set into sort of a gelled consistency.  At this point you may be tempted to break out your mixer to help with mixing it together.  Don't do it! This stuff sudsed up so much you'll wait for what seems like forever for the suds to go down.  Yep, we made that mistake! And we Lol-ed about it and continued on.

Now just pour into your storage container(s).  You can put the recipe on the side of your container to more easily remember.  It may still try to separate after sitting for awhile, just give it a quick stir before each use. And that's it: a simple, inexpensive soap that can be used for so many of your household cleaners. We hope you give it a try!  Until next time...

We hope you'll give it a try!
